She founded the Ithaca ACDA student chapter, winner of Outstanding National Student Chapter Award an unprecedented 6 times. She has been a pioneer in presenting diverse and innovative choral programs and has been recognized as a leading conducting teacher, serving as master class clinician in Carnegie Hall, Spain, the United Kingdom, and at the ACDA National Conference among others.
Galván has been a guest conductor and clinician throughout the world. Janet Galván, Professor of Choral Music since 1983, has led Ithaca choral ensembles in multiple performances at national, regional, and state conferences, tours, and performances at Carnegie Hall and at Avery Fisher Hall. Susan twice hosted an international Lifelong Learning Music Symposium on the Ithaca College campus, which drew numerous researchers and leaders in the field of adult and community music. Her primary areas of teaching include choral and general music for Middle and High school ages, class voice for instrumentalists, supervising both Junior and Senior student teaching experiences and conducted the IC Campus Choral Ensemble. Susan Avery, Associate Professor, Music Education, first came to the Ithaca College faculty in Fall of 2000.
